Hope Medical Institute Graduate Dr. Sonpal’s visit to his Medical School in Poland

Dr. Sonpal recently visited the Medical University of Silesia for a talk with current students on United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) preparation and important areas of focus for residency placement.

Dr. Sonpal is pursuing his Gastroenterology fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital, NY and thanks Hope Medical Institute and the Medical University of Silesia for giving him a quality education and in providing him research opportunities during his time on campus, which has played a major role for him in securing a good residency as well as a fellowship in Gastroenterology.

Dear Students,

We are aware that many of you have been contacting the MUL and HMI offices in regards to the scheduling of the NBME Examinations.

As you know the NBME had recently announced that it has canceled all NBME exams at Prometric centers indefinitely not allowing us to schedule any future exams at Prometric centers due to COVID-19. However, being that we have a strict policy that students must first pass the NBME exam to be eligible to take the USMLE Step 1 or Step 2CK examinations, there will be NO waiver allowed for the NBME exam. The NBME has been a great marker for the University for the past many years especially as we had 100% pass on the Step 1 exam and 94.73% on the step 2CK exam in the year 2019 and similar scores in previous years.

The University has decided to continue to provide the NBME exam in Poland to all who are able to take it in Lublin. We have also now arranged for any student or graduate to be able to take the exam at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York with a limit of 10 persons per session. Seats are filled on a first come first serve basis. You should only schedule if you really believe you are able to take the exam on that date as many students are waiting to take the exams. However, once scheduled, cancelations will not be permitted and students may be fined.

We understand that taking the exam at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center may be cumbersome to some of you. However, please understand that it is a University policy that students and graduates must pass the NBME to be eligible to take the USMLE exam. We made this arrangement to help those of you who really needed to take the exam immediately. This again is a temporary setup until NBME allows us to schedule the examination at Prometric centers which can be any time soon.

We suggest that you schedule the NBME exam only if you feel that you are ready to take the actual USMLE exam. If you do not feel comfortable in taking the exam now, then you may wait to schedule your NBME exam date until a Prometric center session is available.

To schedule an exam in Lublin or at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center please send an email request with the NBME registration form (click here) to nbme@umlub.pl. Once you obtain your confirmation of a seat from the Deans office, then Payments for the exam in the amount of $56.00 USD can be made with proof of confirmation either to the Deans office via wire transfer and/or by credit card or check to the HMI office.

Below is a schedule of dates for the exam. If future dates are not available below, please contact the Deans office or HMI.
